Executive Recruitment Methodology

The PRO:NED Search CriteriaDefining client requirements

As the first step, we develop or update our knowledge of the client, their business objectives, and their industry. Then, working closely with the client we define and agree the responsibilities of the appointment, the experience, qualifications, and qualities required to carry out the role effectively.

Our ability and willingness to discuss client briefs and help to take them to a higher level is one of the key strengths of the Proned team.

Develop job description and candidate specification

Step two we draft and agree the client’s job description, which defines the responsibilities of the role, and the candidate specification, which sets out the selection criteria against which each director and senior executive candidate is measured.

Research

Working with the client we prepare a strategy to identify suitable candidates. The research would employ relevant industry contacts, research staff and a review of our unique candidate register. These resources enable us to identify qualified candidates who would not respond to an advertisement, who are normally happy in their present roles and therefore not actively seeking new positions.

Identifying and screening candidates

We identify candidates through the research process described above. We then screen these candidates and interview those who have relevant backgrounds and interest in the position. The interview will involve a detailed evaluation of the candidate’s qualifications for the position; at the same time we would act as our clients ‘ambassador’ in presenting the opportunity and the organisation’s background to the candidate.

Shortlisting candidates

We prepare a shortlist of candidates best qualified for the position. We assess the relevance of the candidates’ experience and qualifications; in addition we evaluate other less tangible factors to identify candidates who best fit into the style and culture of our client’s organisation. We prepare a report on each of the shortlisted candidates. This report contains a summary of recommendations plus factual background information on each candidate.

Client interviews and final selection

We present and discuss the candidates with the client. We then arrange meetings between the client and the shortlisted candidates for selection of the preferred candidate.

Negotiations with successful candidate

We often assist in the final negotiations regarding contractual arrangements or employment terms with the successful candidate. Clients and candidates often find it useful to have us acting as an experienced third party in these negotiations to arrive at the final agreement.
